Notable Quotes

“The Canadians battled with the ferocity of a cornered animal. They believed the stories of their hockey superiority, which were not quite correct. Our players were better conditioned physically and stronger in skills than the Canadian professionals. But we could not match them in heart and desire.” ‐ Anatoli Tarasov, considered the father of Soviet hockey

“It was a war. Our society versus theirs.” ‐ Tournament point leader Phil Esposito

“I've never felt pressure like that in my life. I remember I had a cup of tea the afternoon before the game (8) and there were whitecaps in my tea, that's how uptight I was.” ‐ Series‐winning goal scorer Paul Henderson

“I was a member of nine Stanley Cup teams, but this ('72 Summit Series) was the greatest experience of my career.” ‐ Canadian defenceman Serge Savard
